The Price Tower Arts Center invites the community to two days of free, family friendly events at the seventh annual Family Arts Festival October 9-10, 2009. This year’s theme—Crafts Done Wright— will help children explore the worlds of art, architecture and design with hands on activities to inspire their creativity.
New to this year’s event, Friday night activities will kick off the festival from 6:00-10:00 pm. Spend the evening in downtown Bartlesville having a great time, while DJ Connections plays a variety of music genres that will be sure to get the crowd moving. The Comedy Clinic will also be on hand making sure the festival starts off on a high note. Guests that evening will also enjoy browsing local art for sale, food for purchase by area vendors and drinks by Copper Bar.
On Saturday, Russ McCaskey, KJRH Channel 2 anchor will emcee the entertainment portion of the day’s activities. With music from The Red Dirt Rangers and Something Steel, there is something to please every taste. The Comedy Clinic will provide comedic interludes between musical sets and showcase local talent.
The festival focuses on family oriented events that are both fun and educational for all ages and range from face painting to wall weaving. With numerous
hands on craft stations, entertainment, story hour, art vendors and community organization booths and the youth art competition, there is something for everyone at this year’s festival.
“This festival is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together and learn more about art, architecture and design in a historic setting,” said PTAC curator Scott Perkins.
In addition to the activities for children, local artists will be displaying and selling their works both days of the festival. Food and refreshments will also be provided by many local restaurants and caterers for a nominal fee.
As in year’s past, museum gallery admission will be free and festival participants can take an opportunity to view the current exhibition, UK/OK: Exploring Traditions in Contemporary Design.
“Last year’s festival drew nearly 1,000 people to our landmark destination,” said Perkins. “This year we hope that attendance will be double that number
and more residents in the region will take advantage of the opportunities for travel here in Green Country.”
