ARKIDTECTURE SUMMER CAMP

ArKIDtecture CampJuly 7 – 31, 2008 - ArKIDtecture Camp
This brand new day camp program offers summer fun  for children ages 9 to 12.  Under the guidance of local art instructor Erinn Rakes, campers will have a new way to experience Frank Lloyd Wright’s historic Price Tower by participating in hands-on creative activities. . This tract will meet for a half-day session once a week over a four week period. Choose one or more tracts to match your interest.  Advance registration is required. All supplies will be provided. Scholarships available by application. “What is a…Graphic Designer?”: Creating a Landmark Calendar Monday, 9am-Noon (ages 9-12)
Class size: 20 campers
Learn about graphic design while creating a “Landmark Calendar” of significant buildings and structures in downtown Bartlesville. Techniques taught include photography in collage, photo-montage, and computer graphics. Campers will participate in a walking tour of downtown Bartlesville, use learning resources at the Bartlesville Public Library, and visit the Arts Center’s Architecture Study Center. Cost: $90.

August 26 - Teachers' Open House Please joing the Arts Center curatorial department and area educators for an evening of information and discussion about the exciting exhibitions, events and resources Price Tower Arts Center has to offer to youth in grades K-12. August 17 – Free Family Sunday “Art Outdoors…Pop Can Sculpture”
Exhibition galleries closed but permanent collection and activity open. Join us eating popsicles and creating recycled sculpture outdoors. Sculptures will be displayed around Bartlesville during Imaginative Qualities exhibition.

August 21 – Members Preview Reception

September 11 - Michaela Merryday lecture “Recycled Art”
As the guest curator of the Imaginative Qualities exhibition, Dr. Merryday, Associate Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Tulsa, will speak on her views of contemporary recycled artworks. Time: 6:30pm Cost: $4 admission, free to current members.

OCTOBER

October 2 - TU’s School of Art presents a lecture by artist Mel Chin at TU
Mel Chin’s work defies easy classification, it ranges from land reclamation projects, public art installations, film, video games, to gallery objects and appears in unlikely places such as industrial waste land, destroyed homes, even popular television programs. What all these projects share is the artist’s concern with ecology and his desire to provoke greater social and environmental awareness and responsibility. October 11 – 6th Annual Family Arts Festival: Paint the Town Green!
Featuring the foot stomping music of the Red Dirt Rangers, this free family event is going to be bigger and better with outdoor tents of games, food, student and adult art shows, art for sale, a ‘recycled’ fashion show and free admission to the museum galleries to see the Imaginative Qualities exhibition. This show is all about going ‘green’ by using water bottles, grocery bags, cups, boxes and more to make works of art.  Time: 11:00am to 3:00pm.  Cost: Free.

October 18 – November 22 - Recycled Quilting Class
Recycle your worn and faded jeans every Saturday for 6 weeks!  Quilting expert and fiber artist Joan Abbott Phillips will introduce students to the art of quilting with recycled materials for both beginning and expert quilters.  Bring your sewing machine (with zigzag stitch capability), blue jeans, and colored thread to the first class.  Cost: $ 15 Members / $ 20 Public– or $90 Members, $120 Public for all 6 sessions.

October 19 – Free Family Sunday “Designer Pumpkins”
Come to the museum for free and bring the kids for a family pumpkin designing session. Time: 12-5pm.

Usonian Gingerbread House Workshop

December 5, 2008
Family event (Children ages 0-17 with accompanying adult).  Houses come pre-made by volunteers so kids need only focus on decorating them.  Time: 4:30-6:30pm; Cost $10.00 per house.

December 6, 2008
Adult event (Age 18+).  Learn decorating skills from an expert pastry chef while creating your own gingerbread house.  Box lunch from Copper included.  Advanced registration preferred; limited to 20 people. Time: 10am-2pm; Cost $25.00.
